The Top-3 Take Away: Giving Thanks – The FOCUS on NoVA Real Estate Team’s Top Volunteer and Donation Opportunities
November is the month to reflect and be grateful for the blessings you have. It’s also a time to give back and help others less fortunate. The FOCUS on NoVA Team is grateful for our many blessings.
Lynn Norusis said she is grateful to “be stable enough in my life to give back to those in need”.
Ingrid Barrett is grateful for “the support my family and friends and their continued good health”.
Tracey Barrett is grateful for the “dedicated health workers who cared for my father as he and his fellow nursing home residents recovered from Covid earlier this year”.
Sharon Ayers is grateful for the “support the FOCUS on NoVA Team gave to my clients while I was able to spend the first three months with my new granddaughter”.
In October, Lynn and Tracey’s collected two SUV’s full of winter clothes to the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Thrift Shop. The team collected and Lynn donated food to Food For Others. Tracey and Ingrid donated $1500 of our commission to the Willing Warrior Retreat in Haymarket, VA.
If you’re compelled to give back your time, supplies, or give a financial contribution this season, consider some of these opportunities in our area.
FOOD BANKS
Food for Others: “More than 70,000 people live in poverty in Fairfax County, one of the Nation’s wealthiest regions. Food for Others distributes food to more than 2,600 local families in need each week.” Volunteer in person, donate food, or contribute financially.
Cornerstones 50: “For nearly 50 years, Cornerstones has been helping neighbors in need overcome tough economic times in an already high cost-of-living region. The service area of Cornerstones has grown to include most of northwestern Fairfax County. Each of us can become a Cornerstone and continue our history of helping people build more stable lives by connecting them to vital resources that solve their needs for housing, childcare, food or financial assistance.”

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Thrift Shop, “conveniently located in the Fairfax Circle Shopping Center in Fairfax City, offers lightly used items in good condition for resale at excellent prices. Items for sale include clothing and accessories, household items, toys, books, lamps, small furniture and appliances, TVs, computer equipment (flat screens only please) and much more.”
VETERAN SUPPORT
Willing Warriors provides “cost-free retreat stays and programs that positively impact wounded, ill, or injured service members, disabled veterans, and their families. The average hospital stay for our recovering warriors is about 300 days. Following the healing of physical wounds, many of them are challenged with the “invisible wounds” of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) for a lifetime.
“Willing Warriors is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization offering cost-free getaways from the hospital environment where the warriors and their families can come to relax, spend quality time together, and reconnect. Our programs include more than 60 cost-free educational and recreational activities, including seminars that address the issues of dealing with PTS and TBI. The intended outcome of these retreat stays is the warrior and their family members return to the routine of rebuilding their lives feeling refreshed and inspired.”
In these strange times it is so nice to be able to give back to those in need. We hope your life is filled with blessings in this season of giving thanks.
