It’s time to get your calendar out and start penciling in some of the fun activities we have identified for May.  Whether you want to take Mom to tea, enjoy some live music on a mountain, or take in the Arts – we have you covered.

 

Take Mom to Tea for Mother’s Day
Take mom to tea at the Fairmont in Georgetown. Pamper Mom at a royal tea with  a special menu of sweet treats and savor sandwiches created by Executive Chef Jordi Gallardo and Executive Pastry Chef A.J. Thalakkat. If tea is not your thing – Champagne will also be offered.
May 7th-9th. Seating is available at 10:30 am, 1 pm and 3:30 pm.

Sunday Gypsy Jazz Jam
Treat Mom to some great jazz music. Swingology, a DC-based music ensemble will perform love gypsy jazz, bossa nova, swing and trad

City of Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts – Comedy – Cabaret – Storytelling
The City of Fairfax Theatre Company presents six nights of al fresco entertainment, talent, and laughs as part of this year’s City of Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts Festival. Performances include Join us for all six performances, or one of two weekends, or both shows of your favorite genre. Every performance will feature new performers and material. ​Patrons are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, lawn chairs, food, and non-alcoholic beverages. Beer, wine and other concessions items will be available for purchase.   Tickets required.

A View from Home: Landscapes of Virginia – Virginia Museum of the Fine Arts
Each year, VMFA on the Road: An Artmobile for the 21st Century travels across the landscape of Virginia from the Eastern Shore to the mountains of the Southwest. This exhibition of paintings, photographs, woodblock prints, and engravings from the museum’s permanent collection explores the diversity and beauty of these natural realms. The collection showcases artists of various styles and periods, who together record both the sublimity of unspoiled nature and the impact of human activity throughout the commonwealth.

Pick Your Own Flowers
Fields of Flowers is a pick your own flower farm located in Purcellville, VA.  Visitors can pick peonies and all blooms are priced at $10 for small bouquet and $20 for a large bouquet cup.  Clippers, containers, and water are available to use.

Mount Vernon Historic Plant and Garden Sale
Shop at the Mount Vernon Plant and Garden Sale for over 50 different varietals of plants, annuals, perennials, and heirlooms grown in our greenhouses. The same plants grown at George Washington’s estate can now adorn your garden.  The General’s Choice plants are propagated in Mount Vernon’s greenhouses from seeds or cuttings collected from plants growing on the estate.

Manassas Ballet Theatre
The Manassas Ballet Theatre’s Giselle brings a classic story of true love and romance to the stage. When a peasant girl dies of a broken heart upon learning her beloved is betrothed to another, the queen of the spirits tries to take revenge on the boy. But Giselle’s love and forgiveness save him from a dark fate.

Dead on the Mountain
Dirt Farm Brewing is offering live music and beer – sounds like a perfect evening!  Get funky with Dirt Farm Brewing for an evening like no other…Dead on the Mountain! The Crooked Angels and The Bluemont Ramble team up to give a true grassroots event with the of Grateful Dead and Grateful Dead inspired tunes!
Gates open at 6:00 p.m.  $16 tickets for guests 21+ and $10 tickets for designated drivers and under 21.

2021 Woodbridge Beer Fest
Start of Memorial Day weekend with a beer tasting in Woodbridge.  There will be over 30 breweries tasting their craft brews.  The streets will be closed off making it a walkable event as well as food vendors, music and other entertainment — including kid-friendly activities.  Wine and housemade root beer will also be available.

May is a great month for folks wanting to visit the Smithsonian museums.  Many will be reopening in May:
