The FOCUS on NoVA team caught up with Jessica Page a designer at NVS Kitchen and Baths in Manassas. We discussed the latest trends in kitchen design and things are really warming up!
Cabinets
The cooler gray shades are warming up into “greige”. Wood tones with brown and gray undertones are warming up the kitchen space. Per usual, white continues to be a tried and true “safe” option but is trending away from bright whites toward warmer linen tones. The Shaker-style door continues to be the style of choice however there is a softening of the inside profiles with beveled edges.
Below is an example of a warmer white kitchen with an island showing shaker doors, warm white, longer subway tile in a greige color tone.
Backsplashes and Accents
Subway tiles, either 3” x 6” or 3” x 9”, continue to be the most popular backsplash finish.
Metallic accents in hardware, lighting and appliances are ever popular and are trending toward gold. Jessica described these accents as popular but “not decade defining”. She has noticed that GE Profile is beginning to pick up the gold accents on their appliances as well.
Pops of blue accents bring interest and depth into grey and white kitchens in the form of blue islands, butler pantry, or mosaic tile accents.
Jessica shared this kitchen with us and had the following to say. “The white kitchen with blue dry bar is from 2017 – at the time we had to pay for a custom color (which now one of the standard colors is so close it would be hard to tell a difference). I remember being hesitant with the blue thinking it would be way too much blue and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it done. We did gold hardware because the silver or chrome looked too cold against the blue – this client was ahead of the curve.”
Counter Tops
Quartz is still the counter of choice for most kitchen designs. According to Jessica, quartz gives kitchens the white marble look without the maintenance of marble. Countertop colors are also warming up but remain in the white family.
Flooring
While most seek to carry hardwood floor that are in the other living areas into the kitchen, tile is also an option. More affordable options include luxury vinyl plank flooring and luxury vinyl tile. Both are known for their durability, water-resistance and affordability.
