Feeling a little blue while sheltering in place? Yearning for a fresh new look? As Virginia begins to open back up there are some big and small things you can do to freshen up. The Pantone color of the year is “classic blue“. They describe the color as “instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” Pretty good foresight in December for where we are today.

Architects and designers incorporate this calming and confident color throughout their designs and concepts. Sarah Armstrong, Founder and Lead Architect of Studio 360 in Fairfax, created a beautiful addition to accommodate a new kitchen centered by its beautiful blue island – a true delight. Betsy Delisi, Owner of Lotus Interior Design in Leesburg, used a beautiful blue textile bedding for this master suite and picked up the color again with sofa pillows, throws, and vases. Amy Slaymaker and Laura Wilson, Owners of Indigo Interiors in Fairfax, created a warm living room with coordinated arm chairs, area rug, sofa and pillow throws.

So how can you decorate like the pros?

For a transitional piece that will fit with most decor in any house, West Elm’s Finn Sofa ($899 – $1,199) is the perfect piece to bring this calming and rich color into your living room.

Provide accent chairs to your living room, sitting area or home office such as the Desmond chair from Arhaus ($1,199) in the Sandoa Pacific pattern, that will complement your neutral and cool tones and bring this “classic blue“ into the room.

Add splashes of “Classic Blue” with comfort accents like the 20” Cotton Velvet Down Pillows ($55) and the 12” Lake Raised Hook Pillows ($28 each) from The Nest Egg in Fairfax.

Bring accents and color to table tops, book cases, mantles, office and more with vases, clocks, trays and plates. The Red Barn Mercantile in Alexandria has the Toku vase ($14) and crock ($37) perfect in a cluster arrangement. The Thunderbolt Table Clock ($119) is a whimsical piece for an office or bedroom. The Blue Night Hope Bowl ($62) brings a soft texture to your decor. The TerraFirma Tidbit tray ($82) and collection is a relaxing addition for any room.

Be utterly unique and get hyper local by supporting your local artists.  Visiting the Lorton Workhouse or the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria for one of a kind paintings, pottery, glasswork and more.  All of these are great ways to bring this “classic blue“ into your home.
