There is a lot going on in February! Whether you are looking to treat your Valentine, celebrate Lunar New Year, catch a play or see a new museum exhibit – we have curated a list of happenings to fill your calendar this month! 

Alexandria Warehouse Sale
This local favorite event is reimagined this year as a walkable event.  Normally held at the Westin Alexandria, this year the warehouse sale will exist in shops, popup tents and open retail space in Old Town. There are over 60 boutiques participating in the event and Made in ALX will be hosting over 25 local artisan wares on the waterfront at 201 Union Street.

Celebrate Lunar New Year
If you want to celebrate Lunar New Year in doors head out to Tysons Corner Center for a Lunar New Year party.  The celebration includes a lion dance, traditional Chinese dance and music and Korean dance.

Smithsonian Virtual Lunar New Year Celebration
The American Art Museum in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy presents a fun filled virtual celebration of Lunar New Year.  Celebrate from the comfort of your own home while streaming video performances of dances and acrobatics as well as a variety of family friendly craft activities.

Disney on Ice
Disney brings its Let’s Celebrate show to the Capital One Arena.  See your favorite Disney characters from Disney favorite movies including Frozen, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Frozen, Aladdin and The Lion King and Finding Nemo.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition

National Geographic Museum Reopening
The Museum reopens  this month with two fantastic exhibits. Once Upon a Climb: Stories From Everest, explores the history of Everest from the perspective of explorers,  scientists and mapmakers.  The second exhibit is The Greatest Wildlife Photographs – a collection of more than 60 of its most compelling photographs.

Mardi Gras Parade

White Noise – Studio Theater – Through Feb 20 – 
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks’ production of White Noise tells the story of 4 long-time friends who experience a violent encounter and how that impacts the friendships.

World Builders – Atlas Performing Arts Center – Through Feb 20
A thought provoking performance about two characters who participate in a drug trial to treat their personality disorder and how their lives changes as a a result.

Daphne’s Dive – Signature Theater Company – Feb 1 – March – 20
The play follows a band of outsiders that bond through their connection at a neighborhood watering whole in Philadelphia.

Change Agent – The Arena Stage – Through March 6
Award winning playwright Craig Lucas takes the audience on a journey through 1960’s political/historical events through imagined scenes from various unsung and celebrated individuals.

Fifty Years of Broadway – The Kennedy Center – Feb 11 and 12
A celebration of 50 years of Broadway shows in one performance.  A variety of performers celebrate the broadway musicals that have graced the Kennedy Center stage.  There will also be a special tribute to Stephen Sondheim.  

Swan Lake – The Kennedy Center – Feb 9-13
The Washington Ballet performs this classic but tragic love story.  Choreography by Julie Kent and Victor Barbee

Mortified – The Kennedy Center – Feb 17
This is the definition of cringe but with humor.  The show centers around adults who share embarrassing artifacts from their childhood (journal entries, poems, art) in front of total strangers to reveal their personal life stories.

Shen Yun – The Kennedy Center – Feb 15-20 –
A celebration of classical art told through music and dance that follows 5000 years of Chinese history.

Dear Mapel – Atlas Performing Arts Center – Feb 2-13
This powerful performance, written and performed by Psalmayene 24, tells the story of the hip hop artist’s journey from childhood in Brooklyn, NY to Washington, DC and explores how the absence of his father impacted his life milestones.

Jesus Christ Superstar – The Kennedy Center – Feb 22 – March 13
This iconic and popular musical celebrates its 50 year anniversary and brings its new production to the Kennedy Center.
