Waterfall Island
Kitchen designers have found great way to bring a kitchen and dining area together cohesively in an open-concept kitchen. Enter the waterfall island. A waterfall island is an island where the countertop material continues down the side of the cabinet on both ends creating a cascade effect with the counter top material. Waterfall islands are a luxury item in kitchen design and many are designed to be a piece of sculpture. Double Islands
Another popular trends in kitchen is the installation of double islands. There are many benefits to having two islands if your kitchen is large enough to work that into your kitchen design. Many designers specify one island as the functional space where you would can do food prep, install a cooktop and/or a second sink and have additional storage. Then the second island is identified as entertaining space to interact with guests and use as a dining area.
Hidden Appliances
Counter space in a kitchen is a hot commodity – some would say a luxury. So it is no surprise that designers have generated creative concealment solutions to keep a streamlined and clutter free look. Some of these solutions include strategically placed cabinets and drawers to conceal blenders, coffee makers and your KitchenAid. There has also been a trend toward floor to ceiling cabinetry to offer plenty of space to store items behind cabinet doors – leaving your countertop clutter free.
