Color has an impactful effect on your senses, and it is an easy way to completely change a space. Pantone, what is looked at as an authority on color trends, has named two colors for 2021 that we will start to see incorporated into everything for the year: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating; what they describe as “A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.”

After 2020, anything uplifting is needed, but for those who want to do away with gray tones, and are not ready to go all out—even a little bit—with a vibrant yellow in their home, other paint industry leaders are sharing the trends they see for the upcoming year.

Behr sees a more natural color scheme happening in homes this year with an almost desert-focus with oranges, teals, sand tones and some deeper hues in blue and green. Behr’s color of the year is Canyon Dusk, a color they describe as “grounding warmth and reassurance deliver on the color collection’s promise of elevated comfort.”

The Behr color palette puts the focus on calm and comfort with light warm neutrals that can be paired with calming tones of blue and green for a restorative feel.

Benjamin Moore is staying with the trend of other major paint retailers stating their 2021 color of the year is Aegean Teal along with a range of 12 colors in their 2021 trend palette to bring in natural harmony to the home.

Sherwin Williams, however, sees 2021 in dark hues with the announcement of Urban Bronze as its color of the year, calling it a more sophisticated sanctuary that homeowners are looking for, saying, “As we’re looking to create the ultimate retreat for reflection and renewal, we’re turning to a hue whose natural simplicity and nature-inspired energy cultivate a sense of calm from the ground up.”
