Masters Monday: Bob Levey, Former Columnist The Washington Post “The Golden Era at The Washington Post”
This month Masters Monday welcomes Mr. Levey was the first reporter hired by the legendary editor Ben Bradlee and sat between Woodward and Bernstein during Watergate. Mr. Levey had a three-decade friendship with the famous publisher of The Post, Katharine Graham. He will discuss all these people, and also his daily column, “Bob Levey’s Washington,” which ran between 1981 and 2004.

Alexandria Warehouse Sale
The Alexandria Warehouse Sale, the town’s longest-running winter shopping experience, has expanded to a walkable format. The event will feature nearly 40 independent boutiques located throughout the DC region showing off their wares. 2021’s sale will be in stores, pop-up tents and open retail space along King Streets and select side streets, with COVID protocols and social distancing guidelines in place.

An Evening with Matthew McConaughey
Join Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey for a sure-to-be-memorable interview with Gayle King as he shares unvarnished stories from his memoir Greenlights and explains how they instilled in him the importance of values, the power of new experiences, and, as he puts it, “either changing your reality or changing how you see it. The ticket price includes a copy of Greenlights.

Crystalline: A Submerge by ARTECHOUSE Experience
ARTECHOUSE closes out 2020 by focusing on Pantone’s Color of the Year: Classic Blue. This exhibit dives into blue’s connection with earth, crystals and adventure through a wondrous castle. Expect a merging of the surreal and reality as you wander through the castle’s rooms, which will be filled with creative curiosities.

Mardi Gras at the Workhouse
The Workhouse Arts Center is throwing a two-week festival in honor of the holiday. There will be online and in-person events for both adults and families. This includes mask making, cooking classes, a parade on campus and much more.

Mardi Gras Cookie Decorating
Celebrate Fat Tuesday with some festive cookies. Join the free Facebook Live event for all the tips and tricks to making your sweet treats. Cookie kits can be picked up at the shop or shipped. Free admission for class, $30 for decorating kit.

Reserve A Private Disco Session
Maggie O’Neill, a DC-based artist, designer and creative entrepreneur is offering a series of private in-person disco sessions. the sessions are designed for up to six people and include 30 minutes The sessions include private disco, music, lights, 150 disco balls, fun prizes and swag, and a professional photographer to document your moves.

Celebrate Black History Month

Visit Gum Springs Historical Society and Cultural Center
Gum Springs is the oldest African-American community in Fairfax County.  It was founded in 1833 by West Ford, a former slave of George Washington. The center hosts exhibits and activities to honor its history. The museum is open for public both public tours (observing Covid restrictions) and they also offer a virtual tour on their website.
