Downtown Herndon is moving forward on plans to revamp the area, making it focused on lifestyle and entertainment. Lynn Norusis, Realtor with the FOCUS on NoVA Real Estate team, gives you the latest on what is planned and when construction will begin.
A massive mixed-use development is happening in downtown Herndon through a public-private partnership with the town and Comstock Herndon Venture LC.
Once complete, 4.675 acres of the downtown will be home to 17,000-square feet of retail space, an 18,000-square foot art center, 273 new residences (all apartments) and more than 780 parking spaces.
The development agreement has been signed but the deal has not yet been closed; however, environmental remediation is being done on the site to prep it for construction. Once construction begins, ArtSpace will be moved to a yet-to-be-determined location until the art center is complete, and the Herndon Festival 2021 will be relocated to the Northwest Federal Credit Union location. The 2020 festival has been canceled due to the pandemic.
