We have curated 10 Things to do in September whether you are looking to do something fun for Labor Day or just enjoy the last few days of summer.

1. Nature Scavenger Hunt
Get out and enjoy nature on a scavenger hunt around Green Spring Gardens. This monthly event teaches kids and adults about different aspects of nature as they scour the garden for themed objects.

2. Flying Circus Air Show
For a fun family outing that does not require any screen time.  Enjoy an afternoon watching incredible acrobatics and wing walking. For interested daredevils, airplane rides are available first come, first served.

3. Visit the National Museum of Women in the Arts
The Museum is welcoming visitors again, and doing so for free on two Sundays this September, with the first falling on Labor Day weekend (Sept. 6) and also September 20th. Timed tickets are required to maintain social distancing; masks must also be worn upon entering the building.

4 Labor Day Car Show Parade
This year the the Labor Day Car Show is going on the road with a wave parade of classic cars through Fairfax city.  Parade starts at 10:00 am and you can follow on the live parade tracker.  More info here

5. Outdoor Comedy Show
Everyone could use a laugh these days.  The State Theater is hosting a free outdoor comedy show.  Guests can also order food and beverages on their outdoor patio.

6.  Fairfax City Restaurant Week
Calling all foodies!  Get ready to try some delicious food while supporting local businesses.  This year Fairfax City Restaurant Week will offer outdoor seating, dine-in seating and take-out RW2Go options which will include three-course pre fixed dinners for $35 and $20 lunch/brunch per person or couple. While restaurants are strictly following precautions to ensure the health and safety of all diners and staff, diners can opt for RW2Go and enjoy a gourmet meal at home complete with libations. Diners who opt for RW2Go will receive their meals in a Fairfax City Restaurant Week reusable thermal tote while supplies last.

7.  The Alden is bringing back its Drive-Thru Drama in September
The theater will be performing From the Ash Baxter Files: The Search for the Stolen Spyglass in the parking lot of the McLean Community Center. The drive-thru performance will take place Fridays through Sundays, Sept. 11 to 13, 18 to 20 and 25 to 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets for the drive-thru range between $15 and $20.

8.  Visit A New Drive-In Theater
The Alexandria Drive-In Theatre is being presented by ALX Community and The Garden, and will feature six movies running on Saturdays through Saturday, Oct. 3. The showings will include a mix of movie classics and family favorites.

9.  Release of Mulan
The much anticipated release of the 1998 Disney animated classic Mulan is here.  The movie will be available for livestreaming on Disney+
beginning September 4, 2020.

10.  11th Annual Swim for the Potomac
The 11th Annual Swim for the Potomac is a great swimming event for entry level or experienced swimmers to build open water confidence.  Put your skills to the test and enjoy open water competition like never before.
