As summer winds down, there are still plenty of fun activities to enjoy before the cooler fall weather arrives. Here are some ideas for a “last hoorah” before summer ends:
- Visit one of the many beaches or lakes in the area, such as North Beach or Lake Anna.
- Attend a local fair or festival, such as the Arlington County Fair or the Prince William County Fair.
- Take a bike ride or hike along the many trails in the area, such as the Mount Vernon Trail or the Washington & Old Dominion Trail.
- Visit a water park, such as Great Waves Waterpark in Alexandria or SplashDown Waterpark in Manassas.
- Attend a concert or event at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna.
- Visit a unique landmark like Luray Caverns and listen to the infamous Stalacpipe Organ which is played during each tour.
- Take a day trip to nearby historical sites, such as Mount Vernon or Monticello.
- Attend a Nationals baseball game at Nats Park.
- Go on a kayaking or tubing adventure along the Potomac River or the Occoquan.
- Enjoy a picnic or BBQ at a local park, such as Burke Lake Park or Bull Run Regional Park.
