Living in Northern Virginia, there is always some road construction that is taking place. Here is a dive into projects that are in progress across the region.

Rolling Road Widening (Phase 2)
- Widen about a mile and a half of Rolling Road (Route 638) from two lanes to four with a raised median, shared-use path and sidewalk between Viola Street and Kenwood Avenue
- Construct a new traffic signal at Rolling Road and Greeley Boulevard
- Upgrade the traffic signal at Rolling Road and Barnack Drive
- Make access management and stormwater improvements
- Begin Phase 2 Construction – Late 2024
I-95 and Route 123 Interchange Improvements in Prince William County
- Replacing the northbound Route 123 loop ramp to southbound I-95 with a signalized left-turn to the southbound Route 123 ramp to southbound I-95
- Widening the southbound Route 123 ramp to southbound I-95 from one to two lanes
- Moving the Route 123 and I-95 Express Lanes ramp intersection slightly south
- Realigning the southbound I-95 ramp to northbound Route 123
- Adding a shared-use path along northbound Route 123 from Annapolis Way to Devil’s Reach Road
- Repairing and replacing the deck of the southbound I-95 bridge over Occoquan Road
- Begin Construction – 2025
Fairfax County Parkway Widening North
- This project will widen about four miles of Fairfax County Parkway from four lanes to six between Nomes Court and Route 29.
- The project will also construct noise walls in the area of the Route 29 interchange.
- Begin Construction – Summer 2024
- Final Completion – Summer 2027
Fairfax County Parkway and Popes Head Road Interchange
- This project is replacing the traffic signal at Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) and Popes Head Road (Route 654) with an interchange. The interchange will feature triple roundabouts that will allow traffic to flow freely via two new bridges over Fairfax County Parkway.
- Building a short segment of the future Shirley Gate Road extension that will provide pedestrian and vehicle access to the future Patriot Park (Fairfax County is designing the rest of the Shirley Gate extension)
- Constructing a shared-use path linking the Fairfax County Parkway Trail to the future Patriot Park
- Reconstructing the Fairfax County Parkway Trail
- Installing a sidewalk along the north side of Popes Head Road
- Extending Ladues End Lane to the new roundabout at Popes Head Road
- Adding an acceleration lane for drivers turning from Nomes Court onto northbound Fairfax County Parkway
- Final Completion – Late 2026
Route 7 and Route 9 Eastbound Ramp Extension in Loudoun County
- The project will extend the acceleration lane from Route 9 onto eastbound Route 7 in Loudoun County to make it easier for drivers to merge into traffic from the ramp.
- Begin Right of Way Acquisition – Spring 2024
- Begin Construction – Winter 2024/25
Burke Centre Shopping Center Left Turn Restriction in Fairfax County
- This project will prohibit left turns from the Burke Centre Shopping Center (located at 5815 Burke Centre Parkway)’s easternmost access to eastbound Burke Centre Parkway (Route 643) to improve safety. New pavement markings, signs and flex posts will be installed at the intersection to restrict left turns out of the shopping center
- Begin Construction – Mid-2024
