As we head into fall season there are home maintenance items that are important to complete to keep your home properly maintained and working efficiently.

On the inside of your home there are systems that should be serviced to make sure they are running properly before the cold weather arrives.

  1. Have your heating system serviced and filters replaced.  Your heating and cooling system should be serviced twice a year to make sure the system is running efficiently. Filters should be replaced every couple of months.
  2. Seal air leaks around doors and windows to insure your home is energy efficient and to save on heating and cooling bills.
  3. Install storm windows to further insulate your home and keep heat inside your home.
  4. Add insulation to improve energy efficiency. Over time insulation can wear down making your home less heat efficient. Insulation helps maintain a comfortable temperature throughout your home and can help save money on heating and cooling costs.

There are several maintenance items to address on the exterior of your home as well to make sure you are ready for fall.

  1. Clean gutters and downspouts to allow for proper water flow away from the property and prevent roof and shingle damage.
  2. Remove leaves and debris from window wells and walk out basement drains to maintain proper water drainage and prevent backflow.
  3. Fertilize and overseed your lawn
  4. Seal concrete cracks to prevent water from seeping into cracks.
  5. Seal your driveway to create an even surface and extend its lifespan.
  6. Have your roof inspected to detect any leaks, broken or missing shingles and/or storm and hail damage.
  7. Winterize Sprinkler system to prevent pipes from freezing and cracking.
  8. Trim trees and shrubs away from the house to prevent damage to house and deter hiding spots for vermin.
  9. Winterize your exterior hose bibs to reduce risk of a burst pipe.
  10. Inspect and replace worn weatherstripping to keep heat in and bugs out.
