SUMMARY:Masters Monday: Hakenson & Mauro "A Tour Guide and History of Col. John S. Mosby's Operations in Fairfax County\, VA"
DESCRIPTION:The FOCUS on NoVA Real Estate Team and Village Drive Village are proud to welcome Don Hakenson and Chuck Mauro to talk about their book A Tour Guide and History of Col. John S. Mosby’s Operations in Fairfax County\, Virginia.\nOne and a half years into the Civil War\, John Singleton Mosby was given a small group of rangers from his former commander\, General JEB Stuart to conduct independent partisan operations into Northern Virginia. These rangers would eventually become the Forty-third Battalion\, Virginia Cavalry and would grow from nine to over 2\,000 men.\nMosby’s mission was to attack and harass as many Union outposts\, camps\, and supply points he could find operating in Northern Virginia. By successfully raiding behind enemy lines Mosby would keep large numbers of Union soldiers guarding the city of Washington\, thus denying federal forces in the field from fighting against General Robert E. Lee and the Confederate army. Mosby is considered by military historians as the most successful leader of such partisan guerilla activities.\nThis book is your tour guide to over 90 locations in Fairfax County where Colonel John Singleton Mosby conducted his raids during the Civil War. It is also a guide to the locations of the historical markers dedicated to those raids\, and the locations of the graves of Mosby’s Rangers who are buried in Fairfax County. It includes a map and the history associated with each raid\, his men\, and all the locations in the county associated with the Grey Ghost\, Colonel John S. Mosby.

SUMMARY:Masters Mondays: Charlie Clark\, Journalist & Author\, Falls Church News-Press "Grim Presence: The American Nazi Party in Arlington\, Va.\, 1958-1983"
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe FOCUS on NoVA Real Estate Team invites you to join Charlie Clark\, Journalist with Falls Church News-Press “Grim Presence: The American Nazi Party in Arlington\, Va.\, 1958-1983”. \nJust a decade-and-a-half after the defeat of the German Nazi regime in World War II\, an American Navy veteran and graphic designer named George Lincoln Rockwell chose Arlington County as his base of operations for his racist and anti-Semitic American Nazi Party. Why Arlington? Where were the locations of his various homes? What tactics did the Nazis use to protest and disrupt life downtown and in suburban Arlington? Why were followers attracted to Rockwell? How did he become internationally famous? How was he killed\, where and why? \nThis illustrated talk will answer all those questions and more about the shocking\, and sometimes forgotten\, presence of his malevolent force within the borders of Arlington–a presence his followers commemorated in 2017. \n\n\n\nThis talk is brought to you by the FOCUS on NoVA REAL Estate Team at Century 21 Redwood Realty on behalf of the Village Drive Village.

SUMMARY:Masters Mondays: Chuck Mauro HMSHistory.com "We Once Met by Chance: Four Life Stories of the American Civil War"
DESCRIPTION:The FOCUS on NoVA Real Estate Team invites you to join author Charles Mauro as he discusses his book “We Once Met by Chance: Four Life Stories of the American Civil War” which follows four people’s lives during the American Civil War: John S. Mosby\, Charles Russell Lowell\, Laura Ratcliffe\, and James Robinson. Just register at the event website below to join us on Zoom online. \nColonel John S. Mosby was a Confederate officer from Virginia assigned to lead guerrilla activities outside the city of Washington. His mission was to keep the Union soldiers stationed there rather than fighting in the field against the Army of Northern Virginia under General Robert E. Lee. \nCharles Russell Lowell of Massachusetts was a Harvard graduate from a prominent abolitionist family. He joined the Union army\, eventually becoming the colonel of the 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry. He was sent to Virginia to capture or kill Mosby. \nLaura Ratcliffe was a young southern lady living in Northern Virginia. She supported her home state of Virginia during the war in any way she could\, including spying for Colonel Mosby. \nJames Robinson\, was an African American living with his family in Manassas\, Virginia. The land that he owned and lived on would become the central part of the battleground for two of the major battles during the war. \nWe Once Met by Chance is the story of the Civil War from the perspective of these four individuals. Readers learn about their lives\, their families\, and their aspirations during these tumultuous four years in American history.\nLearn more at www.HMSHistory.com.
