So you’ve decided you want to buy a new home and you go out to take a look. The most exciting part about buying a new home besides moving into it is touring the different homes, getting ideas, seeing what’s out there but to set yourself up for success you want to do your homework first by following these three steps.

KNOW THE NEIGHBORHOOD

If you see a home you like do your research before you go out and see the home. See if it has the amenities that you want. Is it close to the shopping or commuter routes that you want to be able to take? Or, maybe that you want to avoid. If you are a commuter you want to look at what your commuting time is going be like leaving from that neighborhood. Find out what the different back roads.

LOOK BEYOND THE COSMETIC

The second thing you want to keep in mind when you’re previewing homes is to look beyond the cosmetic. You will g into a lot of homes today and a lot of homes will be staged, which really shows a home in the best light possible. You may go into homes that are currently being lived in and you want to be able to look beyond what furniture is in there. You also have to look beyond the paint colors and wallpaper. Sometimes even going as far as being able to get an idea of changing interior architecture of taking down a wall if you want an open-concept.

Lastly, when you’re previewing homes and you’re looking at five to six homes in a day or going to a bunch of different open houses you need to take notes because all of the homes are going to start meshing together. Taking notes immediately after leaving the home will help recapture that feeling you were having in the home or what you liked/what you didn’t like. It will all be written down for you to make good choices.
