We have identified 10 fun things to do this month whether you are looking to celebrate the 4th of July Holiday or just enjoy the easy days of summer.

 

  1. Drive in Movie in Tysons
    A new pop-up drive-in theater in the Tyson’s Corner area offers movie lovers an alternative. Classic family movies will be shown at the lot of the former NADA headquarters at 8400 Westpark Drive, McLean. Tickets are $20 per vehicle, but there is limited space for groups of four who bring chairs or blankets. Gates open at 7 p.m., and movies begin at dusk. More info at the link.
  2. Go Fishing
    Fishing is available year round at Lake Fairfax Park and it is a great place for beginners. The lake is very accessible for shoreline fishing as well as fishing from kayaks.  The lake is stocked with catfish, bass, sunfish, black crappie, bullhead, and bluegill.
  3. Go Camping at Burke Lake Park
    Enjoy a day at the park with your family and then spend the night camping at Burke Lake Park.  As of 6/26 the park’s campgrounds are open and taking reservations.  You can also enjoy fishing, biking, boating, volleyball, and hiking along the 4.7 mile lake trail.
  4. Hike the Local Parks
    We are lucky to live in an area rich with walking and hiking trails.  Pick a park, plan a route, pack a lunch and take a hike!
  5. Leesburg Ladies Bike Ride
    Each Sunday in July you can enjoy a scenic bike ride through Loudoun County on the Leesburg Ladies Road Ride.  Take a 30-mile trek through scenic views of Loudoun County. This ride is recommended for intermediate riders with a 13- to 14-minute pace.

  6. LIVE Music
    Attend a love music concert at The Birchmere.  The long standing Alexandria music hall will begin live concerts at limited capacity on July 10th

  7. 4th of July Celebration in Washington, D.C.
    The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and historic aircraft including P-51s and B-29s are scheduled to fly over the National Mall and the District from around 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Attendees should maintain their social distance and wear a mask while celebrating. This will be followed at 9:07 by a 35-minute fireworks display which will be visible from many locations throughout D.C. and Northern Virginia. 
  8. Yoga In Paradise, Friday, July 10, 2020, 6:30 PM
    Roll out your mat in the rolling hills of this gorgeous, family-owned winery in Clifton, VA for a luscious, mindful, safely-distanced yoga experience. Following class, enjoy a glass of red, white, or rose (ticket included in price) while taking in the breathtaking scenery.

  10. Register for Virtual Summer Camps
    There are several great virtual camps being offered at Fairfax County Park Authority and George Mason University. GMU is offering Virtual Arts Summer Camp and GMUs Game and Technology Academy is offering STEM and Gaming Camps. FCPA, meanwhile is offering a variety of camps from drawing to drama to gaming options.
